5454 aluminum plate is widely used in ships, marine engineering, oil tank, pressure vessels, automobile bodies and other fields. In these areas, it meets the high requirements for material strength, corrosion resistance and processability

5454 Aluminum Plate is a popular choice for fuel, marine, automotive, and machine applications. It offers superior formability, corrosion resistance, workability, and strength compared to 1100 or 3003 aluminum. Our 5454 plates/plate stocks are available in full-size and custom-cut lengths.

5454 aluminum plate is an aluminum alloy sheet that has been strain hardened and stabilized. It is commonly used in the aerospace industry for its high strength and corrosion resistance properties.

5454 aluminum plate is a typical rust-proof aluminum. Its strength is about the same as that of 5154, about 20% greater than that of 5052 aluminum. It can adapt to harsh corrosive environments and is is widely used in the fields of automobiles and aluminum tankers.

5454 aluminum alloy is an aluminum-magnesium alloy with high strength, good plasticity and excellent corrosion resistance. Its tensile strength and yield strength are higher than other aluminum alloy materials, while maintaining good formability and welding performance.

5454-H32 aluminum sheet is mainly used for insulation tanks and polishing tank truck.

5-6mm 5454-H32/H111 aluminum plate can be used for tank body; 7-7.2mm 5454-O aluminum plate can be used for tankers head; 5-6 mm 5454-O aluminum plate can be used for wash board.

What is 5454 Aluminum Plate?

5454 aluminum is part of the 5xxx series, which are alloys primarily alloyed with magnesium. This series is renowned for its excellent corrosion resistance, high strength, and good weldability. The 5454 alloy is a solid solution-heat-treated version, offering higher strength than 5052 while maintaining superb performance in harsh conditions.

Its typical chemical composition includes:

  • Aluminum (Al): Denge
  • Magnesium (Mg): 2.4% – 3.0% (primary strengthening agent)
  • Manganese (Mn): 0.5% – 1.0%
  • Chromium (Cr): ≤ 0.05% – 0.20%

This specific blend of elements is the secret behind its impressive properties. 5454 plate is specified in a wide range of industries:

Industrial Applications: Widely used for chemical processing equipment, piping systems, and structural components in corrosive environments.

Marine Industry: Hulls, decking, gunwales, superstructures, and boat gangways. Its resistance to saltwater corrosion is unparalleled in its class.

Pressure Vessels and Tanks: Its strength at elevated temperatures makes it ideal for welding fabricated pressure vessels and storage tanks.

Transportation: Used in truck and trailer bodies, dump trailers, and large vehicle frames where durability and weight savings are key.

Cryogenics: Suitable for applications involving low temperatures, as aluminum’s toughness increases as the temperature drops.

5454 vs. Other Common Aluminum Alloys

  • 5454 vs. 5052: 5454 offers higher strength, particularly at elevated temperatures. Choose 5052 for better formability and 5454 for higher strength and stress applications.
  • 5454 vs. 5083: 5083 is stronger still and is often used in heavy-duty marine applications. 5454 offers an excellent balance of strength, weldability, and cost for many medium-duty applications.
  • 5454 vs. 6061: 6061 is a heat-treatable alloy (6xxx series) that can achieve higher strengths. However, 5454 has far superior corrosion resistance in marine settings and is not susceptible to stress corrosion cracking like 6061 can be in certain tempers.
